Melvin K. “Pete” Hix, age 76, of Hebron, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).
He was born April 7, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Virgil and DeVonna (Writsel) Hix.
Pete was an avid NHRA race fan attending many races at National Trail Raceway in Hebron and followed the drag race circuit on television. As a mechanic, he loved to work on and collect old automobiles. He could be described as having a “heart of gold” and would do anything for anyone in their time of need. Above all his family was the most important thing to him. He proudly represented his country by serving in The United States Navy. Pete also had a good sense of humor and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen R. (Shaffer) Hix, whom he met thirty-five years ago; children, Brian (Ashley Ann) Hix of Cambridge, Kristy (Shaun) Dountz of Zanesville and Darcy Ogan of Circleville; four brothers, Steve Hix of North Carolina, Alan Hix of London, Ohio, Pearl Hix of Colorado and Dick Hix of Marion; two sisters, Sandy Tackett of Darbyville, Ohio and Med Woods of Columbus; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gwen Seymour.
The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath is assisting the Hix family with arrangements.
