A graveside service celebrating the life of William (Bill) Franklin Heim, age 84, of Heath, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, at Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Bill passed away on April 1, 2018 at Flintridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 22, 1933 in Newark to the late Walter E. and Dorothy (Trefzer) Heim.
He was a 1951 graduate of Newark High School. Bill served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Nancy (Antritt) Heim on June 1, 1957. He was a retiree of the United States Post Office in Newark. Bill played softball in the Old Timers League for the Colonial Bar. He enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, playing cards with family and friends, and watching the Buckeyes. One of his favorite pastimes in recent years was sitting on his deck, watching the birds. Bill never had an unkind word to say about anyone and his family and friends will miss him and his unique sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; four children, Jeff (Jan Downey) Heim of Pickerington, Sue (Ed) Stone of Chandler, Arizona, Doug (Linda) Heim of Heath, and Lisa (Todd) Hammond of Buckeye Lake.
In addition, seven grandchildren; Stacey (Jeff) Tewksbury, Jason Heim, Vanessa Stone, Lauren (Trin) Wolfe, Holly (Nick) Covert, Heather (Richard Stephenson) Heim and Kevin Heim; three step-grandchildren, Michael Downey, Jordan Downey, and Caleb (Sarah) Downey; five great-grandchildren; Kaylah, Allie, Izzy, Gavin and Harper. He is also survived by a sister, Barb (Earl) Keck.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene (Gary) VonIns and his longtime friend, Joe Gilligan.
