A funeral service celebrating the life of Mary K. Fayerweather, age 82, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Mark Pierce, officiating.
Mary passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living. She was born in Traverse City, Michigan on December 7, 1935 to the late Walter and Alice (Porter) Conine.
Mary graduated from Traverse City High School with the class of 1953. She attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in 1956. She married Bruce Leeland Fayerweather on June 21, 1956. A dedicated mother and educator, Mary raised four children while continuing her schooling and earning a Master’s of Arts from Butler University in 1957.
Mary was a woman of many and varied talents: she was a violinist and pianist, but also taught history throughout much of her life. Mary achieved the status of professor at Delta College in Michigan, and was understandably proud of her accomplishment. In addition, Mary, was the owner of Norrell Temporary Services and a guidance counselor at OSU-Newark.
Mary was a member at the First United Methodist Church and was active in the women’s group and church choir. She served on various non-profit boards and was also a grant writer. Although she was a strong-willed and highly accomplished woman, Mary will be remembered most of all for her care and compassion for others.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Bruce; her four children, David (Tammy) Fayerweather, Joan Fayerweather, Lois (Mark) Fayerweather-Smith, and Linda Fayerweather; five grandchildren, Brent Fayerweather, Tashina Fayerweather, Jacob Fayerweather, Andrew Smith and Adam Smith; two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Isaiah; two sisters, Joyce Groesser and Carol Booth and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a half-sister, Suzanne and a half-brother, Gordon.
Friends and relatives may call one hour prior to the service on Friday, April 13 from 10-11 a.m. at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
