A funeral service celebrating the life of Mark M. McCoy, age 89, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, with Wes Humble officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors at graveside.
Mark passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at his residence.
He was born September 6, 1928 in Clay County, West Virginia to the late Otis and Bessie (Case) McCoy.
Mark proudly represented his country by serving in The United State Air Force and The United States Army Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Once he was honorably discharged, he worked as a civil service employee for the government as an electronic technician.
He was a member of the Newark American Legion Post #85, and also loved to travel to the western parts of the United States. Mark was a kind and caring man who had a great sense of humor, loved to farm and collected vintage musical instruments. He was also an avid guitar and banjo player and loved to ride horses, especially his favorite mare named Mindy.
He is survived by a son, Mark E. (Kristie) McCoy of Newark; and a daughter, Rita (David Cooper) McCoy of Heath; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Otis McCoy of Lorain, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (1998); a daughter, Deborah Rice (2008); a brother John McCoy; and a sister Margaret Schilling.
Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
