William T. “Bill” Harvey, Sr., age 95, of Newark, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at his residence.
He was born September 7, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Dana and Ruth M. (Shaw) Harvey. He grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio.
Bill worked for Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Newark and transferred to Toledo, Ohio as an Administrative Engineer where he retired after 33 years. He moved back to Newark in 1985 shortly after his retirement.
He proudly represented his country by serving in The United States Army in World War II and in 1943 he served honorably in the Pacific Theatre.
Bill was a 32nd degree member of the Fraternal Order of Masons and was also active with the Shriner's International. Bill had many hobbies like bird watching, enjoying nature, and playing card games with friends, but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family – his laugh would make us laugh.
He is survived by his daughter, Janelle (Jack) Clark of Newark; four grandchildren, Christie Harvey of Newark, Greg (Beth) Harvey of Newark, Susan (Bill) Tudor of Newark, and Sunnee Clark of South Carolina; eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; his first wife, Jane (Varian) Hamer; and special friend, Delores “Dee” Mowrey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Harvey, Jr. (2012); and his late wife of twenty-eight years, Charlotte (Littlefield) Harvey (2000).
A private celebration of life ceremony will be at a later date. The Harvey family has asked others to honor their dad / grandfather by loving your family and appreciating nature each and every day, like Bill did throughout his long life.
The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street is assisting the Harvey family with arrangements.
