A funeral service celebrating the life of Daniel Lee Daugherty, Sr., age 80, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors.
Daniel went to be with His Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Selma- Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).
He was born on June 29, 1937 in Newark, Ohio to the late Arthur D. and Elizabeth I. (Ross) Daugherty.
Daniel has been recognized as the first Ohio Army Reservist with The Ohio National Guard –101st Airborne - 33rd Battalion, proudly represented his country for eight years.
He was also the patriarch and a great family man. Daniel will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was able to fix just about anything and enjoyed participating with the Boy Scouts of America.
He was an extremely hard worker, loved the outdoors, enjoyed mowing and deer hunting. He has also been a truck driver for over 40 years before retiring twice, at the ages of 62 and 65.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sondra R. (Whyde) Daugherty, whom he married on June 29, 1955; a son, Daniel L. Daugherty, Jr.; two daughters, Charita Daugherty and Denise Falzon; two sisters, Helen Banks, and Tiarra Lewis; and a brother, Jack Daugherty; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Daugherty; a sister, Julia Dickerson; infant sister, Beverly Daugherty; and great-granddaughter, ShyAnn Rayner.
Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service, from (9-11 a.m.) on Monday, June 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
