William “Bill” L. Miller, age 92, of Newark, passed away June 13, 2018. He was born October 29, 1925 in Glouster, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Lillian (Swindle) Miller.
Bill was a WWII Veteran serving in the Navy on a L.C.T. Landing craft in the South Pacific from 1943-1946 as the ships cook. Following an honorable discharge, he worked many years at the Subway Body Shop in Newark and became part owner before he retired. He was an avid mushroom hunter, enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Druids, American Legion, and L.C.T.F. Flotilla of World War II.
Bill and his late wife Mary, loved to travel and one of their favorite places was Hawaii. He also looked forward to taking the “fun bus” trip to the Wheeling casino each month and was described as “naturally lucky”.
He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (James) Angeloff and Keely (Greg) Phelps; stepdaughters, Sharon (William) Murphy and Jackie (Richard) Chester; grandchildren, Amber and Arielle Cox, Alexis Witt, Carly and Grace Phelps and Chad and Kelby Bezek; step-grandchildren, Sean, Erin, Shannon and Adam; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Miller (Herzog-Skeen), daughter, Cheryl Bezek and his brother, Robert Miller.
The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, 59 N. 5th St., Newark, is assisting the family with arrangements.
There will be no calling hours. A private inurnment will take place at Newark Memorial Gardens.
