A funeral service celebrating the life of John A. Hitchcock, Sr., age 87, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, with Rev. Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery where the Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors at graveside.
John passed away on July 1, 2018 at his residence. He was born February 28, 1931 in Newark, Ohio to the late John W. and Cora B. (Adams) Hitchcock.
John proudly represented his country by serving in The United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a Veterans Service Officer, a member of The American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) The Fraternal Order of The Eagles and the Druids. John retired from Rockwell International in 1996 where he worked as a quality control inspector.
He is survived by two sons, John A. Hitchcock, Jr. and Billy Jo Hitchcock; two stepdaughters, Debby (Michael) Hill and Jenniffer Evans; a stepson, Russell (Rebecca) Evans; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marge Hitchcock; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Dalma J. (Weaver) Hitchcock (1997); and five brothers, Edward (Judy) Hitchcock, Kenneth Hitchcock, Stanley (Katherine) Hitchcock, Robert (Dorothy) Hitchcock, and William (Twila) Hitchcock.
Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service from 9-11 a.m. at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
