Ronald F. “Ron” Schroeder, age 81, of Newark, passed away at his home early Monday, October 2, 2017 following a long illness.
He was born August 10, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Frederick Karl Johann and Alice (Leeman) Schroeder.
Ron graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1957 with a degree in Engineering at the young age of twenty. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and the editor of the Wisconsin Engineering magazine.
Ron worked many years at Alcoa Aluminum Industries, Inc., resulting in moves from coast to coast and places in between.
Ron retired from Ohio Aluminum in Cleveland, Ohio where he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for twenty years.
After his retirement, he volunteered teaching English as a second language. Ron moved to Newark in 2005 where he tutored students at Wilson Middle School in Newark and at the OSU / COTC campus until 2014.
Above all Ron loved his family. He was an avid bridge player, loved fishing, reading, playing golf, the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed spending time with the “Wednesday Lunch Bunch”, cocktail time and Nancy’s great cooking.
On September 14, 1957, he married Nancy A. Clough and together recently they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by family.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy A. (Clough) Schroeder; two sons, Steve (Luz Angela) Schroeder of Fort Collins, Colorado and David (Ellen) Schroeder of Glasgow, Kentucky; two daughters, Ann (Henry Morehouse) Schroeder of Granville and Susan (John) Balzer of Jackson, Ohio; six grandchildren, Derek, Andrea, Rebecca, Emily, Sarah and Simon; one step-grandchild, Jeremiah (Brandy) Morehouse; and four step great-grandchildren, Sophie, Alex, Boudicca and Octavian.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Schroeder.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
