A memorial service celebrating the life of Thomas “Tom” B. Preston, age 62, of Newark, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at Highwater United Church of Christ, 1213 Dutch Lane NW, Newark, with Reverend Scott Schieber officiating. Inurnment will take place at Wilson Cemetery.
Tom passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Altercare Newark North. He was born July 30, 1956 in Newark, Ohio to the late Richard W. and Roberta A. (Breymaier) Preston.
Tom had a great passion for sports, especially playing basketball. The love of basketball continued throughout his life. He graduated from Utica High School in 1974, where he held several school basketball records. He is a member of the Utica Athletic Hall of Fame. After high school, he attended The Ohio State University.
He also enjoyed bodybuilding and working out. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could charm just about anyone with his unique personality. Tom will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Tom is survived by his brother, Jeffrey R. (Kathy) Preston of Newark; a sister, Molly J. (Bob) Ghiloni of Grandview; several nieces and nephews; and several grand nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s name to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, Post Office Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058.
The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the Preston family with arrangements.
