A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard L. Loper, Sr., age 82, of Newark, will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark with Reverend Justin M. Belcher officiating.
Richard passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born April 15, 1936 in Newark, Ohio to the late George B. and Eva (Kirk) Loper.
Richard was a very kind and caring man who had a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor. He worked for the ice cream corporation for fifteen years before retiring.
However, his true passion was going to auctions, getting up early and attending flea markets and estate sales. He had a special gift to seek out and buy hidden treasures and then resell them for a profit. Richard was also a dedicated member of the Standard Apostolic Resting Place Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Lavina L. (Jerry) Maschino; three sons, George (Dee) Loper; Richard (Laura) Loper, Jr. and Lonnie Loper; a brother, Gary Loper; a sister, Patricia Triplett; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanie Deckard.
