A graveside committal service for Glynn B. Johnson, age 89, of Heath, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Newark.
Glynn passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Kendal at Granville, with his caring family by his side. He was born April 2, 1930 in Ottumwa, Iowa to the late Frank E. and Mary A. (Glynn) Johnson.
Glynn proudly represented his country by serving four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. Family was everything to Glynn. He took great pride in being a devoted and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. In his earlier years, he was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Glynn was always there to support others in their time of need and was deeply concerned about their well-being and the welfare of his entire family. He was quite talented as a woodworker, creating many beautiful hardwood keepsakes for his family and friends.
After 35 years working at State Farm Insurance Company, he retired and spent many happy winters in Florida. Glynn has been a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church since 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Marlene (Lewis) Johnson; three daughters, Linda A Wintgens, Mary “Kathy” (Les) Stoll and Therese M. Phillips; a daughter-in-law, Siobhan Johnson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Craig Johnson (2016); and a grandson, Matthew Stoll (1998).
The Johnson family would like to thank the staff at Kendal and Hospice of Central Ohio for the compassionate care they gave to Glynn this past month. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Glynn's name to Hospice of Central Ohio, Post office Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058 or to The Society of St. Vincent De Paul, 135 Wilson Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service is assisting the Johnson family with arrangements.

We were saddened to hear the news of Glynn's passing. Glynn was my friend and mentor as we worked together at State Farm during the 60's and 70's. While the years have gone by quickly, I will always remember the good times, the laughter, and the occasional cold beer after a round of golf with my friend "Curly.".
To Mary and the Johnson family, we send you are heart felt condolences and prayers. May our Lord grant you His peace and comfort knowing Glenn is now at rest in His presence.
