A gathering of family and friends will remember the life of James E. “Happy” Wright, age 86, of Heath, on Monday, June 22, from 4-6 p.m. at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
Jim passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at The Inn at Summit Trail in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He was born November 19, 1933, in Ward Township- Hocking County, Ohio to the late Ralph and Bertha Mae (Hames) Wright Gibbs.
Jim absolutely loved playing euchre and poker with his friends and family members. He also liked to participate in harness racing and had worked with Owens Corning for 30 years before retiring in 1990. Happy was a 1951 graduate of Trimble High School in Glouster, Ohio.
He and his wife Frances, were very close whether at work or just spending time with one another. They took numerous trips to western Canada to fish and hunt. He began his love of fishing at the young age of twelve.
Jim earned his nickname by being happy, easy going, and always having a kind word for others. He was also well known for his good sense of humor. He was a 60-year member of the Fraternal Order of Newark Eagles - Licking Aerie #387, earning the distinction of being a Golden Eagle.
He had many pets over the years. A few of his favorites were flying pet squirrels, albino frogs, a raccoon, and a parakeet. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Julia Ann (Laughery) (Walter) Rogers of Etna; a sister, Vickie (Neil) Gibbs McKlean of New Lexington, Ohio; six grandchildren, Brooke (Dave) Green Baker, Kyrie N. (Marshall) Rogers Nutter, James (Trisha) Laughery and Robert Laughery, both of Georgia, Wendy Laughery of Newark and Scott (Rebecca) Laughery, currently stationed in Japan with The United States Navy; thirteen great-grandchildren, Megan, Haley (Eldon), Adam, Orion, Torin, Hollie, Summer, Daisy, William, Liam, Jackson, Lilly and Rhys; and a great-great grandson, Theo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Frances L. Wright (2014), whom he married on December 23, 1957; and a son, Ernest Hollie Laughery (2005).
