Lorraine Carol “Laurie” Carter, age 77, of Heath, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). She was born February 20, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Edward and Eleanor (Salter) Vanderbilt and was lovingly raised by Allen and Alice Voorhees.
She loved to crochet doilies, pot holders and miniature doll clothes, many of which were entered in various contests earning winning ribbons. She was an avid baker and cook. She collected angels, loved Elvis, all types of gospel and country and western music. She also had a soft spot in heart for animals.
Laurie held a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Eagle’s Nest Tabernacle Church in St. Louisville. Laurie was baptized in 1976 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio.
She is survived by her four children, John Carter, Kathleen Biederstadt, Cynthia Tarbox and Sandra Bollinger; a brother, Ronald Malony; three foster sisters, Alice Siegelin, Virginia Papik and Margaret Appalloni; sister-in-law, Peggy Ragland; grandchildren, and very special grandson, Logan Graham.
In addition to her birth parents and the foster parents who raised Laurie, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest “Hoot” Delany Carter (2007), whom she married on September 6, 1974; a son, William Darnell; and two sisters, Joan Lugo and Karen T. Wright.
A gathering of family and friends will remember Laurie on Friday, March 22 from 5-7 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Tabernacle Church, 10015 Loches Road, St. Louisville.
